ここでは、現地のカフェ（喫茶店）やレストラン（食事・飲食店）で役立つ英語をご紹介します。
日常会話は問題なく話せる人でもカフェやレストランには手こずることが多々あります。というのも、飲食店にはたくさんの種類があり、アメリカンと和食でもかなりスタイルに違いがあったり、さらにその店によって扱う食材や注文の手順などいろんなことが異なります。
今回は、カフェやレストランで使える基本的な便利フレーズとコーヒーの種類や卵料理の焼き加減などちょっとした知識も取り入れています。
「現地の有名な料理を堪能したい」、「英語で注文するのは緊張する」とレストランやカフェを苦手としている人も多いのではないでしょうか。そんな方は、ぜひこの記事を参考にしてください。
シーン別!英会話フレーズ
まずは、海外旅行中に訪れるであろうカフェからです。
会話形式で書いてきます。

カフェで使う英会話
スターバックスやシアトルベストなどたくさんのコーヒーショップがありますが、飲み物を注文するので基本的には同じです。ただ、スターバックスは豊富なカスタマイズができるため、少しややこしくなる傾向があります。また、「Starbucks name」という商品受け取り時に名前を呼ばれるシステムがあるのもスターバックスの特徴ですね。
カフェで必要な基本的なフレーズに加えてスターバックスでの注文のコツを紹介します。ちなみに、スターバックスのメニューには「Smallサイズ」は表記されていませんが、実は隠れメニューとしてあります。必要な人は店員に聞いてみましょう。
基本的な流れは、サイズ→ホットorコールド→欲しいドリンクで注文します。

日本語の名前は間違われやすいので、コツは短くしたり英語の名前に変えてしまうことです。スペルも一緒に伝えるとさらにいいですね。

「人数が多いほど楽しい」という意味のイディオム。「誰を誘ってもいいですよ」というカジュアルな表現です。

social smoker＝独りでいるときは吸わない、パーティーや集まりでしか吸わない人のこと。

テラス席のあるカフェ＝「sidewalk cafe」。よくオープンカフェと言いますが、これは和製英語です。
トイレに行く時

トイレに行きたい時、海外では「トイレに行く」と言う必要はありません。余計な情報「too much information（TMI）」と捉える人が多くいるので、トイレというワードは言わないようにしましょう。仲のいい友人に対してもです。
また日本語で「トイレに行きたい」と言いますが、英語では〜したい「want to」ではなく、「need to/have to」など〜する必要がある、という言い方が一般的です。

stuff＝もの。カバンやパソコンそれぞれ言うと面倒なので、全てを含む「stuff」で大丈夫です。戻った際は「thank you」と言いましょう。
海外では置いて行くのは盗まれるのでしないように。席を離れる際は誰かに頼むか全て持って行くようにしましょう。

カフェで使える簡単でかっこいい英語
・After you＝お先にどうぞ
同時に列に並んだ時「どうそ」という意味で使えます。go aheadも同様の意味。
・Anytime＝いつでもどうぞ、どういたしまして
店員さんが何かを落として拾ってあげた時に「どういたしまして」という意味で使えます。
・Coming through＝道を開けてください
人混みの中、席までコーヒーを運んでいる時に使えます。

・My bad＝ごめんね
カップを落としてしまった時など軽い謝罪として使います。友人にも使えますよ。

レンジでチンは、「heat up」など色々な言い方がありますが、最近では、電子レンジという意味の名詞「microwave」を動詞として使うことが多いです。簡単なので、オススメです。

アメリカなどチップ文化のある国では、料理の料金とは別にチップを払います。チップの相場はレストランの種類や人によって異なりますが、アメリカ人の友人は一般的に15%で大丈夫と言っていました。
また、最近では会計に自動で加算されることがあります。レシートに記載があるか確認しましょう。「Service charge」か「Gratuity 」と書かれています。

正式には「I can’t complain」ですが、スピーキングではしばしば主語の「I」を省略することがあります。
(例) I can’t wait→Can’t wait! 待ってられないほど(楽しみ!)など

・Certainly＝もちろんです
誰かがトイレに行くので荷物を見て欲しいと言ってきた時、
■Could you watch my stuff while I go?（ちょっと私の荷物を見ていてもらえますか?）

・Allow me＝私に任せて
ベビーカーを持っている人やお年寄りの人に何か手伝ってあげる時に使います。重い荷物を運んであげる時なども同様です。
直訳は「私に許してください」で、「私に〜させてください」になります。同じ意味の「let me do that」より丁寧な言い方です。
・Dig in＝さあ食べて
・Drink up＝一気!
・For real?＝本当に?マジで?
「Are you for real?」の略です。友人との会話に使えます。
・Help yourself＝どうぞ召し上がれ
・I suppose＝たぶん
・I’m off＝もう行きます
「I will take off」も同じ意味。
take off＝「離陸する」という意味もあります。
・Make my day＝楽しい一日
「It makes my day」を短縮したもので、プレゼントや何か嬉しいことがある時に使います。
店員が料理の味を聞きに来た時、

ホテルや友人にデリバリー店があるか聞いてみましょう。

Gotcha=I got youの略語。「わかった」。アメリカ人がよく使います。

Have a good one＝Have a good day。ネイティブがよく言うのがdayの代わりに「one」を使う言い方です。
電波が悪い場合

（電波が悪いみたいです）

（よく聞こえません）
電波は「signal」とも言いますが、「reception」の方が自然で良く使われます。
reception＝ホテルなどの受付。という意味もあります。
receptionist＝受け付け係。

（合計で25ドルです。クレジットカードですか?それとも現金?）
