海外旅行に行けば必ず使うのが乗り物。その中でもバスは比較的利用頻度が多くなりますので比較的多くの方が言い回しに困ることはないかもしれませんが、船やクルーズを利用する人はあまり多く多くないと思います。

ここでは、利用頻度の多いバスでの英会話、利用頻度は少ないけれどそれゆえになかなか出てこない船での英会話表現をご紹介します。

バスの乗り降りで使う英会話

基本的に格安料金で移動できる長距離バスは経済的にオススメです。荷物の預け方など便利なフレーズを紹介します。

外国語のため文字が読めない場合があるので、バスの目的地よりもバス番号を頼りにする方が無難です。そのためにも、まずはバスの路線図マップを入手します。

国によっては、降車する場所で自ら伝えないといけない場合があります。その際は大きな声で言いましょう。

最終バスなどあらゆる質問

ヨーロッパでは、基本的に夜中でもずっと走っている「ナイトバス」というものがあります。現地の言葉によって呼び方や表記は変わってくるかもしれませんが、バス番号の前に「N」と書いてることが多いです。ドイツ、ポーランド、イギリスでは「N」と表記されています。

ナイトバスは昼間と同じバス停から発車するバスであっても、深夜から朝の決まった時間だけ路線やバス番号が変わることがあるので、事前に調べておきましょう。

延滞や紛失物などのトラブル

couch=長距離バス(イギリス英語)
※アメリカでは「bus」と言います
double-decker=2階建てバス
bus driver=バスの運転手
refund=返金
ticket inspector (ticket checker)=切符検札員
penalty fare =罰金

ドイツなどヨーロッパでは基本的に、バスや電車の改札口がありません。切符を持ってなくても入場可能ですが、覆面の係員が抜き打ちで乗車券をチェックすることがあります。見つかれば無賃乗車で罰金になるので、必ず購入するようにしましょう。

船・クルーズで使う英会話

「two left feet」はイディオムです。直訳すると左足が2本あるという意味で、不器用ということ。
